China, October 25, 2017 - Sea, the parent company of Southeast Asian and Taiwanese e-commerce platform Shopee, announced its initial public offering on the New York Stock Exchange. As the first pan-Southeast Asian Internet company to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange, this IPO is a major milestone for Sea Group and its various sub-businesses (including Shopee).
Shopee CEO Chris Feng said: "The listing date is an important day for Sea Group, which has three product lines: Shopee (e-commerce), Garena (entertainment) and AirPay (electronic payment). The new journey that is about to begin will bring unprecedented opportunities for our business, employees and customers, and Shopee is extremely excited about this.
Shopee has been listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Shopee is the abbreviation of SHOPEE, a Southeast Asian e-commerce platform. It was founded in 2015 and covers Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam. Shopee was listed on the New York Stock Exchange in October 2017. Tencent holds a 40% stake. In 2018, the total transaction volume reached 10.3 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 149.9%, and the number of APP downloads exceeded 195 million. Shopee is similar to Taobao in China, but it highlights the price advantage and diverse forms of products, which is more in line with the development law of the early e-commerce market in Southeast Asia.
