Many e-commerce companies are frustrated by the end-of-year shopping season: although sales have hit record highs, consumers' delivery experience is very bad, and bad weather and overwhelmed logistics warehouses have exacerbated this problem. In response to this, Amazon's solution is to build its own logistics system.
Data from a research institute under Bank of America show that since 2014, Amazon has invested $39 billion in its logistics system. If related warehouses, aircraft leasing, etc. are included, the total investment has reached about $60 billion.
The effect of this huge investment is also obvious. In 2019, of the 4.5 billion packages sent by Amazon to American users, 2.3 billion of them were borne by Amazon itself. The report mentioned that this made Amazon the fourth largest logistics and distribution company in the United States.
From the perspective of the international market, Amazon delivers 48% of its own orders: in 2019, Amazon sent a total of 2.5 billion packages outside the United States, of which 1.2 billion were delivered by Amazon itself.
