The Yangtze River (English name: the Changjiang River/the Yangtze River) originates from the southwest side of the Geladandong Peak of the Tanggula Mountains on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, the "Roof of the World". The main stream flows through 11 provincial administrative regions (eight provinces, two cities and one district) including Qinghai Province, Tibet Autonomous Region, Sichuan Province, Yunnan Province, Chongqing City, Hubei Province, Hunan Province, Jiangxi Province, Anhui Province, Jiangsu Province, and Shanghai City, and flows into the East China Sea east of Chongming Island. It is 6,387 kilometers long and ranks third in the world's major rivers, second only to the Nile River in Africa and the Amazon River in South America.
The main stream of the Yangtze River runs across central China from west to east, located between 90°33′~122°25′ east longitude and 24°30′~35°45′ north latitude. Hundreds of tributaries converge from north to south and extend to parts of eight provinces and autonomous regions including Guizhou, Gansu, Shaanxi, Henan, Guangxi, Guangdong, Zhejiang, and Fujian. The drainage area is 1.8 million square kilometers, accounting for about 1/5 of China's total land area. Most of the water from the Huaihe River also flows into the Yangtze River through the Grand Canal.
The upper reaches of the Yangtze River above Yichang are 4,504 kilometers long and have a drainage area of 1 million square kilometers. The section from Zhimen to Yibin is called the Jinsha River, which is 3,464 kilometers long. The section from Yibin to Yichang is commonly known as the Sichuan River, which is 1,040 kilometers long. The middle reaches from Yichang to Hukou are 955 kilometers long and have a drainage area of 680,000 square kilometers. The lower reaches below Hukou are 938 kilometers long and have a drainage area of 120,000 square kilometers.
The Yangtze River is the largest river in China. 1. It is the longest river, with a total length of more than 6,380 kilometers.
2. It has the largest drainage area, with more than 1.8 million square kilometers, accounting for about one-fifth of China's total land area.
3. It has the largest runoff and the most abundant water resources, with a total water resource of 961.6 billion cubic meters, accounting for about 36% of the total runoff of rivers in the country, which is 20 times that of the Yellow River.
4. It has the largest hydropower reserves and the most built water conservancy facilities.
The Yangtze River (the Changjiang River; the Yangtze River) The Yangtze River is the largest river in China, with a total length of 6,397 kilometers (with Tuotuo River as its source), generally called 6,300 kilometers.
The Yangtze River, located in China, is 6,397 kilometers long. It originates from the Jianggendiru Glacier in the Geladandong Snow Mountain of the Tanggula Mountains in Qinghai Province, China. It is the first largest river in China and Asia and the third largest river in the world. It is also the longest river in the world that is completely within one country. Its length is second only to the Nile River and the Amazon River, and exceeds the radius of the earth. It is the third largest river in the world in terms of flow, second only to the Amazon River and the Congo River. From the source of Geladandong in Qinghai to Yichang in Hubei is the upper reaches of the Yangtze River; from Yichang to Hukou in Jiangxi is the middle reaches of the Yangtze River; Hukou to the Yangtze River estuary in Shanghai is the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. The entire Yangtze River system has a drainage area of 1.8 million square kilometers, accounting for 18.8% of China's land area. Together with the Yellow River, it is called the "Mother River".
