1999 can be regarded as the first year of China's e-commerce, full of opportunities and unknowns. China's e-commerce really entered the substantive commercial stage in this year.

The first protagonist to appear was Wang Juntao and his 8848 (quoted from the height of Mount Everest). The founder Wang Juntao himself was also a believer of Amazon. He wanted to name it Yangtze River or Yellow River, but unfortunately they were all registered. Later, 8848 was due to its positioning wavering between B2C and B2B, and it eventually failed to land on Nasdaq before the capital market closed and died.

An interesting thing to tell you is that in September 1999, 8848.com planned a 72-hour online survival. 12 contestants racked their brains and bought Yonghe soy milk only through the Internet...

In December 1998, Alibaba was officially registered in the Cayman Islands. In March 1999, its subsidiary Alibaba China was established in Hangzhou, my country. In June of the same year, Alibaba Group was registered in the Cayman Islands.

A lot of things happened in 1999. On September 6, the China International E-Commerce Application Expo, in September, China Merchants Bank launched the OneNet Online Banking Service, in December, China Construction Bank launched online payment, and Ctrip, Shanda and other future big names were all established in this year.
