It flows from north to south through the Central Great Plains and into the Gulf of Mexico. The longest tributary of the Mississippi River is the Missouri River, which is about 4,000 kilometers long. It originates from the eastern slope of the Rocky Mountains near Yellowstone Park in Montana, flows through the semi-arid Great Plains, and merges into the Mississippi River in St. Louis, Missouri. The total length of the Missouri-Mississippi River is 6,021 kilometers, ranking fourth in the world, after the Nile River, the Amazon River, and the Yangtze River.
The flow of the Mississippi River is about 16,800 cubic meters per second, which is slightly more than half of that of the Yangtze River. It ranks about tenth in the world. Our mother river, the Yangtze River, ranks fourth in the world after the Amazon River, the Congo River, and the Orinoco River.

It is the longest river in North America and the fourth longest river in the world, with a total length of 6,270 kilometers and a drainage area of 2,980,000 square kilometers. The source of this stream is in Minnesota, USA, flowing through the central Great Plains and into the Gulf of Mexico; the farthest source of the water system is the Jefferson River, the upper source of its tributary Missouri River, and its source is located in the northern part of the Rocky Mountains in the western and northern United States.
The upper reaches of the river are at a slightly higher latitude and are mainly replenished by spring snowmelt and rainwater. The highest water level of the year appears in April, and the second highest water level appears in June due to increased precipitation. The flood season is from March to July, and December is the dry season. The annual average flow is 2,900 cubic meters per second. It freezes in winter and has a low sand content.
