Can I buy Shaowei Tongjian Jieyao in Japan?

Ming Jiajing 6th year (1527) Jianyang Yang's Qingjiangtang engraved edition

Bamboo paper, thread binding, 44 volumes, 8 boxes

Summary: This edition has 14 lines per half page, 27 characters per line, and notes in small characters are in two lines. White margins, double fishtail, double columns around. Comments are published on the columns, revealing the content of the text and historical facts in a few short words, such as the comment "At the beginning, the Three Jins were appointed as princes" on the first page of Volume 1 of Tongjian Jieyao, so that readers can see it at a glance. The words of the sages are quoted in large characters one grid lower, surrounded by a long double-line frame, the year is surrounded by ink, the country is surrounded by a circle, the interpretation and supplementary notes are in a square frame, and the emperor's temple name and the right side of the name are indicated by double straight lines, which are very eye-catching. The ancient sages despised the Jianyang Fang engraving, saying that it was not well collated and had many errors, and it was inevitable. However, the books printed by Jianyang bookstores either used illustrations to attract readers, or added plaques to protect copyright, or used ink circles, boxes, dots, and titles printed on columns to make them eye-catching, or compiled, annotated, processed, enriched, or even adapted historical books into popular novels to expand the readership; or printed phonetic notes and explanations to facilitate the imperial examinations, and so on - in short, they all made significant contributions to the history of printing, the history of book publishing, and the history of cultural popularization. It cannot be denied that they are a cluster of rare flowers in the history of ancient Chinese woodblock printing, worthy of attention and in-depth research.

On November 1, 2010, the "People's Daily Overseas Edition" published a news report that the University of Macau Library has a copy of "New Compilation and Annotation of Zizhi Tongjian Waiji Zengyi" with Song History, Ming Wang Feng's compilation, Liu Yan's additional editing, and Liu Hongyi's supplementary annotations, a total of two volumes, printed by Shen Du Zhai during the Hongzheng period of the Ming Dynasty, which was formerly owned by Prince Yi Hongxiao. The title of the article is very eye-catching, "A rare book engraved in the market, an old collection of Yifu", which shows that there were book collectors who appreciated the Jianben in ancient times. Nowadays, the same book title, "Xiansheng Siming's Sequel to Zizhi Tongjian Jieyao" engraved in Anzhengtang in the 28th year of Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty, has been selected into the third batch of three precious ancient books in the National List, with numbers 03717-03719 respectively.

The whole book is densely written in small characters, and the engraving is extremely elegant, with the lingering charm of Yuan Dynasty books. It is extremely rare to find such a style in the Jiajing edition, which is a rare product in the Jiajing edition. It is divided into three parts: "Waiji", "Jieyao" and "Xubian". At the end of the volume of "Jieyao", there is a bookplate engraved with two lines of large characters from Qingjiangtang, which reads: "Longji Bingxu Year Mid-Winter/Qingjiangtang Corrected New Edition" [Bingxu is the fifth year of Jiajing, which was in 1526]; at the end of the 20th volume of "Xubian Jieyao", there is a line of small characters engraved bookplate under the title "Dinghai (year) Qingjiangtang New Edition" At the end of the book, there is a long postscript by Japanese scholar Minamoto Jingye in the fourth year of Honghua (1847). According to the General Catalogue of Rare Ancient Chinese Books, P261, this book has the editions of Zhan Changqing's Jiuzhengzhai in the 32nd year of Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty, Liu Hongyi's Shenduzhai from the 16th to the 24th year of Jiajing, and Anzhengtang in the Ming Dynasty [one copy of each of the above three copies, which are also extremely rare]. The lines do not match these, and there is no record of this Qingjiangtang edition. Note: Qingjiangtang, also known as Qingjiang Book Hall, is a famous bookstore in Jianyang. The owner's surname is Yang, and his life experience is unknown. According to P312-313 of Ancient Books in Fujian compiled by Xie Shuishun and Li Ting, there are a total of 18 books engraved by Yang's Qingjiangtang. This bookstore was founded in the late Yuan Dynasty and lasted for more than 200 years until the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty. The most famous one is the "Newly Added and Supplemented Xiang Jiandeng New Talk" engraved in the sixth year of Zhengde. It has pictures above and text below, and is a single volume. It is now treasured in the National Library. This is also a unique copy, and its printing style is very similar to the Shen Du Zhai copy, so it is suspected that there may be a connection between the two editions. Ye Dehui's "Book Forest Yuhua" said that the book printed by Shen Du Zhai "has a fine version of the collation, which is also quite valuable for book collectors", and the so-called "strong and beautiful fonts and tight lines" are exactly like this book. It is a unique copy in the world and is extremely precious.
