Yugonglou pineapple, a specialty of Xuwen County, Guangdong Province, is a product of China's national geographical indication. According to records, Xuwen pineapple was introduced from Southeast Asia by the returned overseas Chinese Ni Guoliang in the 15th year of the Republic of China (1926). Ni Guoliang was also the "first person to grow pineapples in Guangdong". Yugonglou Village has a subtropical monsoon climate with plenty of sunshine, fog and rain. In addition, the local gentle slope landform and brick red soil are very suitable for pineapple cultivation. Xuwen produces one-third of China's pineapples.
