Graduated from Tsinghua University.

In 1988, Gao Xiaosong was admitted to the Department of Electronic Engineering of Tsinghua University, but later dropped out to study in the postgraduate preparatory class of the Directing Department of the Beijing Film Academy. His early career was mainly as a TV screenwriter, music composer and producer.

In 1994, he published the collection "Campus Folk Songs", and in 1996, he released his personal collection "Youth Without Regrets".

In 1996, Gao Xiaosong and Song Ke founded the independent brand "Wheatfield Music", which later developed into the record company Taihe Wheatfield.

In 1999, he wrote and directed the love movie "When Flowers Bloom".

In 2002, he wrote, directed and composed the movie "My Heart Flies", which won the highest award at the Lyon Film Festival in France and the Jury Award at the Syracuse Film Festival in the United States. He often serves as a judge for major talent shows.

On September 9, 2011, the movie "The Great Warrior" written and directed by Gao Xiaosong was released.

In March 2012, the talk show "Xiao Shuo" hosted by Gao Xiaosong began to be broadcast.

In July 2015, Gao Xiaosong joined Alibaba Music and became the chairman of the board.
