Jack Ma, male, Han nationality, member of the Communist Party of China, was born on September 10, 1964 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. His ancestral home is Gulai Town, Shengzhou City, Zhejiang Province. He is the main founder of Alibaba Group. He is currently a director of Japan SoftBank, Chairman of the China Council and Global Board Member of the Nature Conservancy, Director of Huayi Brothers, Director of the Life Science Breakthrough Prize Foundation, and Co-Chair of the United Nations High-Level Panel on Digital Cooperation.

In 1988, he graduated from the Foreign Language Department of Hangzhou Normal University. In the same year, he served as an English and International Trade teacher at Hangzhou Institute of Electronic Industry. In 1995, he founded China's first Internet business information publishing website "China Yellow Pages". In 1998, he served as General Manager of China International Electronic Commerce Center Guofutong Information Technology Development Co., Ltd. In 1999, he founded Alibaba and served as CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Alibaba Group.

In May 2013, he resigned as CEO of Alibaba Group and continued to serve as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Alibaba Group.

On June 30, Jack Ma was elected Co-Chair of the Council of the Global Internet Governance Alliance. In September 2019, Jack Ma stepped down as Chairman of Alibaba, but continued to serve as a member of the Alibaba Group’s board of directors.

In December 2017, he was named “Education Person of the Year 2017” by the “China Influence” category[7].

In September 2018, Jack Ma issued an open letter announcing that he would step down as Chairman of the Group’s Board of Directors on September 10, 2019, and that CEO Zhang Yong would take over. In December, the CPC Central Committee and the State Council awarded Jack Ma the title of Reform Pioneer and the Reform Pioneer Medal. [8] In March 2019, Jack Ma ranked 21st on the 2019 Forbes Global Billionaires List with a fortune of US$37.3 billion. [9] In May, Jack Ma and others were appointed by UN Secretary-General Guterres as the new Sustainable Development Goal Advocates. [10] In October, he received the Forbes Lifetime Achievement Award[11]. In the same year, he was selected as one of the 2019 Forbes Business Person of the Year’s Transnational Business Leaders. [12]

On September 30, 2020, Jack Ma ceased to serve as a director of Alibaba Group. [13] In April 2021, Jack Ma ranked 26th on the 2021 Forbes Global Rich List with a fortune of US$48.4 billion. [165]
