In August 2005, Yahoo invested $1 billion plus all the assets of Yahoo China to invest in Alibaba and acquired about 39% of its shares.
According to the agreement, starting from October 2010, Yahoo, which holds a 39% stake in Alibaba, will increase its voting rights from 35% to 39%; the voting rights of Alibaba's current management will be reduced from 35.7% to 31.7% accordingly.
Alibaba Group announced that it had made an acquisition proposal to Yahoo, hoping to acquire Yahoo's 39% stake in Alibaba, but was rejected by Yahoo.
