The main thing to consider when choosing a pen is the nib. Except for limited editions and handicrafts made of metal, most excellent pens use resin pens. I wrote a recommendation before, please refer to it.

1. Chinese hard pen calligraphy pays more attention to the control of the pen force. The strength can reflect the unique charm of Chinese characters. The soft and elastic nib is more likely to reflect the change of this force, so the gold pen with a clear nib is preferred.

2. Finished pens are mainly divided into three series. The first is domestic pens, mainly Hero and Yongsheng. The second is European and American pens, mainly Pelikan, Montblanc, Lamy and Parker.

The third is Japanese pens, mainly Pilot, Sailor and Platinum. From the perspective of the writing characteristics of Western characters in culture and the grinding shape of the nib, domestic and Japanese pens are more suitable for Chinese writing, while most European and American brands have tended to grind their nibs into a ball shape since the mid-to-late 1990s, and pay more attention to the fluency of writing Western characters. Japan is also in the Han cultural circle, and the grinding shape of the nibs of its fountain pens is more suitable for Chinese writing than European and American pens.

3. Among domestic pens, the Hero 200 gold pen produced before 2000 is the best. You can go to the old store to see if there is stock. Among Japanese pens, Platinum 3776 and Pilot 742 are recommended, but Japanese pens are thin and have precise ink control. It is recommended to choose nibs above F nib; among European and American pens, Montblanc 149, Pelikan M800, Lamy2000 and Parker Duofold are recommended. Except for Montblanc 149 and Lamy2000, Pelikan and Parker try to choose blade-shaped grinding nibs produced around the 1990s. You can go to Ebay to look for antique pens. European and American fountain pens have smooth ink flow, so try to choose pens with F nibs or below.

4. Dark-nib pens are convenient for shorthand. The main brands are Parker, and the domestic brands Hero and Yongsheng. I will also briefly recommend a few models, Parker 51, Hero 100 and Yongsheng 100. Parker 51 and Yongsheng 100 have also been discontinued for many years. You need to go to an old store or buy online to try your luck.

5. Steel-nib pens are more suitable for Chinese writing. Pilot's 78G and Lamy's Safari are recommended. For the choice of nibs, please refer to Article 3.
